5 Inspirational messages from Sarah Jakes Roberts

Sarah Jakes

Whenever I listen to a message by Sarah Jakes Roberts, I can’t help but scream! Her words have a way of cutting deep. I guess it’s not just the words but the energy behind the words. Looking at her life story, all that she has been through I’m inspired. Being a mum at 14, going through a public divorce while being the daughter of a pastor. Not just any kind of pastor but the well renowned bishop TD Jakes. I can’t even imagine the pressure, pain and shame she experienced. After going through all that, yet she was able to turn her pain into purpose.

Now being a mom of 4, wife, ministry leader, entrepreneur and creating her own fashion line, I’m convinced that any woman, no matter what she has gone through or is going through will be able to relate with her messages. I believe these quotes from Sarah Jakes Roberts will inspire you to become all that you were born to be.

When asked by black enterprise how she plans her content and prioritizes the messages she delivers, she said …

I deliver messages that resonate with where I am. It probably has a lot to do with the passion that I end up bringing to the message. I don’t look at what’s going wrong in the world and say, okay I’m going to preach about this because it’s the headlines. I think some people do that and that works for them. But I literally go into prayer and access my own life. I focus on where am I and what do I need to hear.

1) Sarah Jakes Roberts – Don’t settle for safe, embrace the uncomfortable to become unstoppable

“Despite the many tears that threatened to dilute it, your faith did not dissolve. Your heart is still pumping. Your pulse is a sign that this world needs you.”

“She caved into the pressure to be like everyone else and robbed the world of the wealth assigned to her truth.”

2) Random quotes- Sarah Jakes Roberts

“Remember this: you are strong enough to confront your history. Don’t turn away from your brokenness. Remember that you’re not doing this alone. God foreknew this moment would come. Every now and then we need a reminder that someone else has defeated a giant we must face. Allow this book to be that reminder. Instead of counting the reasons you have to be afraid, give yourself permission to be brave. You’ve already survived the trauma, but you can’t transform your pain into purpose until you’re willing to pick it up again. Roll up your sleeves, wipe your tears.

“Instant gratification often results in long-term disappointment. The many broken promises I have made to myself have created wounds I am still discovering. Growth occurs when we confront our personal experiences and how they’ve changed us.”

“Imagine where your Light will take you when you begin to trust God and not the negative opinions or thoughts that live in your heart.”

3) Come out of hiding- Sarah Jakes Roberts

I don’t know who you are but this is the year of revolution of you. You’ve been dipping your toe in the water and I hear God saying that it is time for you to jump all the way in. That all of us come to a time in a season of our life where we can no longer afford to just dip our toe in and we are saying, ” I don’t want to fail so I’ll just keep my hand on the plough over here and I don’t want to fully commit so imma just keep my options over here.” I hear God saying that you are never going to experience the miracle transformation power of God unless you dive all the way in… I hear God saying that your fear is keeping you from diving in but if only you’ll dive all the way in. Then I’ll show you how to swim in this water. I’ll show you how to show up in that boardroom, I’ll show you how to navigate this relationship, I’ll show you how to raise that child… If you would speak the words I speak over you and do what I say do then you will recognize that it’s time for you to COME OUT OF HIDING.

4) Victory over insecurities

… And I was thinking about this in the context of our insecurities. I’ve always wanted them to disappear, does anybody else feel this way too? I just want them to disappear… But I realise that maybe we are praying the wrong prayers. Maybe the prayer should be instead God help me to navigate my insecurities.

5) Girl Get Up- Sarah Jakes Roberts

I’m hungry, I’m thirsty, God I need you like never before, there is something sick down on the inside of me and I need it to be healed. I’m tired of making love with the thing that’s trying to kill me. God make me lose the taste out of my mouth, so all I want is righteousness, so that all I want is wholeness. God help me to forgive, God help me to release bitterness.

We have to break through some things before we can get to where God has us. Saturate…I hear the word saturate. His glory is going to saturate your life. He’s coming for your children’s, children’s, children, coming for your finances, to saturate it. You’re the gate. If you open yourself up, God will saturate everything connected to you.

I need a move of God, I need a miracle, I need weight again. Without weight, I can’t be the force that God has called me to be.

I pray that as you read these words may they come alive in you and begin to revitalize your soul in Jesus name, Amen.

SELF LOVE

SELF LOVE

SELF LOVE

What is SELF LOVE? Alright! I know you’re very eager to know what self love is that’s why you are here. Self-love, defined as “love of self” or “regard for one’s own happiness or advantage”, has been conceptualized both as a basic human necessity and as a moral flaw, akin to vanity and selfishness.

According to the Brain and Behavior research foundation, self love is the state of appreciation that grows from actions that support our physical, physchological and spiritual growth. Its means taking care of one’s own need and not sacrificing one’s well being to please others

Ways to develop/practice self love

1) Practice good self care

  • Take care of your body, emotions , spiritual and mental health.
  • Don’t neglect yourself. Treat your self out , pamper yourself, create time for your self care routine.
  • Stop comparing yourself to others!*
  • Know that you are who you are. You are just fine the way you are and you are God’s own master piece formed in his image and likeness.

2) Be kind, patient, gentle and compassionate with yourself

Yes, you may have done some very awful things and made some terrible mistakes that may still be hunting you till today but be kind and compassionate enough to forgive yourself. Embrace the freedom that comes with forgiving yourself and move on. Stop beating yourself over failures and mistakes. Forgive yourself and find a way to move on or correct them. Be kind to yourself. Appreciate yourself and be happy when you do something good or successful. Even if no one notices your effort or work, appreciate yourself. Also, learn to be patient with yourself. You may not have everything figured out now, just be patient with yourself and its going to work out with time.

3) Make room for healthy habits

Take actions based on needs and not wants. Take out time for meditation, sports and affirmation. Read books, study something even just on the Internet. I also like to state that, You must learn not to worry about other people’s opinion. Allow yourself to make mistakes and be brave enough to learn from them. Exercise boldness in public and interact with others.

4) Have intimacy with God

God is the ultimate. Sometimes all we just really need to feel loved again, is to open our heart and receive the love that comes from the warm embrace of God our father. Remember, your value doesn’t lie in how your body looks or who people think you are. The truth is that their opinions don’t actually define you. Most times, other people’s opinion of you is just a reflection of who they are and you can’t be responsible for that.

5) Allow your self to feel both pain and joy ,love as fully as you can.

See beauty in life, take the opportunities life presents to you and create your own.

Remember, self love is putting your mental, emotional ,spiritual and physical well being first😊.

The bible clearly says;

LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF

It is so clear and needs no further explanations. In my opinion, the criteria for loving others genuinely is loving your own self genuinely.

Why is it important to love yourself?

  • The key to a greater life satisfaction is self love.
  • Self love gives you a positive attitude towards life.
  • It will strip bitterness from you.
  • Self love builds confidence for one’s own self.
  • It wipes off the seeds of jealousy, depression and all that shit won’t even exist. Even if it gets to exist, it will not be as loud as it is in the world today.self lovr

In the end, if we all could love ourselves more, the world will definitely be a better place because we would all know how to love one another.

It will enable us to have more confidence in our own selves, trust the process God is taking us through.

I encourage you to trust God to teach you how to love yourself because only him has the complete recipe of love.

He is love himself, He is a loving father and his love for you is limitless.

I’ll like to end by letting you know that;

The solution to that depression you are going through right now is intimacy with Jesus

Begin your journey by getting into his loving arms and in no distant time, you’ll be full of love for yourself and others.

Building Self confidence

Building Self confidence

BUILDING SELF CONFIDENCE

Self confidence is an attitude about your skills and abilities. it means you accept and trust yourself and have a sense of control in your life. You know your strengths and weaknesses well and have a positive view of yourself. You set realistic expectations and goals, communicate assertively and can handle criticism. In this post on building self confidence, we will dive into the importance, types and causes of self confidence. Then, we will also talk about the ways on how to have a healthy self confidence.

Different factors contribute to influence our self confidence such as: genetics, personalities, life experiences, thoughts, age, health, comparison etc.

Why is self confidence important?

Self confidence or self esteem is very important in life as it is one of the determinants of success or failure. it is very important because it influences a person’s life choices. it plays a significant role in one’s motivation in life. Having a high self esteem can help you navigate through life with a positive attitude and outlook. On the other hand, having low self esteem might hold you back from achieving your goals and hinder you from maximizing your potential as you would navigate through life always having the perception that you are not good enough or you don’t have what it takes to succeed both at school or work.

Types of Self esteem

  1. Low self esteem: people who have low self esteem, think of themselves as below average. They do not believe in themselves nor trust in their abilities neither do they place value on themselves. Low self esteem can affect a lot of things in one’s life. Some of the effects of low self esteem are poor relationships, addiction, depression and anxiety.
  2. High self esteem: people  who have high self esteem tend to love and accept themselves. They believe in themselves and their abilities. They have the confidence that whatever challenges might come, they will be able to surpass it
  3. Inflated self esteem: people who have high self esteem tend to think of themselves as better than other people and are always ready to underestimate others. This is actually a very negative type of self esteem because it prevents people who have it from forming meaningful and healthy relationships. They always want to be ahead and most times do not mind hurting people to achieve the success they desire, thinking that will bring them happiness.

What Causes Low Self confidence

Low self confidence often begins in childhood. Our teachers, friends, siblings, parents and even media send us positive and negative messages about ourselves. For some reason, the message that you are not good enough is the one that stays with you.

To boost your self confidence, you need to identify the negative beliefs you have about yourself then challenge them. You may tell yourself, “you’re too stupid to apply for a new job” for example or that “nobody cares about your.” Start to note this negative thoughts and write them on an piece of paper or in a diary. Ask yourself when you first started to think these thoughts.

Next, start to write some evidence that challenges these negative beliefs such as “I’m really good at cryptic crosswords” or “my sister calls for a chat every week”

Is Skin Bleaching also a way of getting better?

Is Skin Bleaching also a way of getting better?

Is Skin Bleaching also a way of getting better?

During the social media campaign “10 days of body talk“, a lady asked, “is skin bleaching also a way of getting better, just like how fat people do physical exercises to lose weight and get better, why is it so much of a great deal for someone to bleach their skin in order to attain a better complexion?”

Honestly, I was quite impressed with her question because don’t we all just want to get better, grow, develop and be the best versions of ourselves? while she spoke, I kept asking myself these questions…

What is “getting better?”

Really, what is getting better? fair skin or dark skin? who said which was better? Do you really know which is better or are you allowing society and fashion trends decide for you? Using the same example of Sports, there is no best size, rather there is a healthy size. In the same light, there is no best complexion. Beauty, they say lies in the eyes of the beholder, but I hope you never forget that you are a beholder too. Every detail about you including this skin tone is yours to behold; confidently, unapologetically, YOU.

At what cost?

Apart from  low self esteem, the thing with skin bleaching is that it destroys the skin over time. The adverse effects of skin bleaching take a lot of time and resources to be reversed and mind you, some are irreversible. At what length are you willing to go just to “get better” and if you are using something that in a long run damages your skin, then can you really say you are getting better? So to me, when it comes to skin, getting better means loving your skin and giving it the best treatment that will nourish it not ruin it. Yes, you can make your skin glow while maintaining your complexion and  without necessarily bleaching it.

Powerful lessons from the Chinese bamboo story

Powerful lessons from the Chinese bamboo story

Few days ago, while chatting with my elder brother, he brought up this story. Even though, the Chinese bamboo tree story was to encourage someone else but since then I’ve not stopped thinking about it. There are just so many powerful lessons from the Chinese bamboo tree story that I think everyone should know about it. It cuts across every area of life! Be it education, relationships, business, if you meditate on it and apply to every area of your life, growth will be inevitable.

What’s special about the Chinese bamboo?

This plant takes 5 years to start growing!

John Dabrowski

The Chinese bamboo tree doesn’t break through the ground for the first four years. See, like other plants once you plant it, you need to water it, nurture it, and fertilize it every day. But unlike other plants nothing happens the first year. You do the same thing the next year, and still nothing happens. That’s right, for 4 good long years, you see no results! Can you try to picture that right now? There’s no proof of progress. If I’m the farmer, I may start to doubt that I actually planted something.

But there’s good news, because in the 5th year things begin to happen. They don’t just happen, they happen real fast. In just 5 weeks, the Chinese bamboo tree can grow till about 27 meters! It’s almost as if you can actually see the tree growing before your very eyes.

Lessons
  • To succeed, you need a lot of faith, believe and patience. Faith in yourself and your abilities. All bamboo tree planters know and believe that the tree will grow in 5 years. They just do what they have to do while waiting for the right time for the tree to grow. Do not allow your mood or circumstances around you derail you from your goal. People will criticize and doubt you. To be honest, you can’t blame them (obviously they haven’t heard the Chinese bamboo story yet). Don’t give in to the nay saying.
  • Keep watering and nurturing the seed. For the Chinese bamboo tree to grow in 5 years, it needs to be watered and nurtured. For 4 years there’s no sign of growth but however, the planter keeps watering and nurturing. Don’t stop working on yourself even though it feels like it’s not working. Learn a skill, improve your character, work on that project etc just do what you have to do. In due time, you will be rewarded. It takes small actions everyday to get a major goal.
  • Build a solid foundation in order to survive in the harshest conditions for many, many years. Truth is, like other trees without the solid foundation, it might grow in the beginning. However, in the long run, it might not be able to support the size and long life.

Examples of bamboo tree planters in real life
  1. Albert Einstein

As a child he didn’t start speaking until he was four, reading until he was seven, and was thought to be mentally handicapped. Yet, he grew up to be one of the first people whose name pops up when you think of physics

2. Vincent Van Gogh

An artist whom throughout his lifetime,  sold just one painting, ‘The Red Vineyard’. But nowadays one of his paintings can cause $100 million. Literally, his work finally paid off, it’s rather unfortunate he didn’t enjoy it himself.

3. Richard Hooker

Richard Hooker had to water his bamboo tree for seven years and through 21 rejections by publishers until his humorous war novel, M*A*S*H became a runaway bestseller, spawning a movie and one of the longest-running television series of all-time. ( source: JD mind coach)

Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Zig Ziglar

Mark Victor Hansen

Don’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With the realization of one’s own potential and self-confidence in one’s ability, one can build a better world.
